Saxophone Fantasies

A Musical Carnival!

About:

Designed nearly two centuries ago by Adolphe Sax, the expressive possibilities of the saxophone are seemingly inexhaustible. Virtuosic saxophonist Jonathan Hulting-Cohen, Professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, presents an eclectic program with Jiayan Sun at the piano, featuring works including Carmen Fantasy by Pablo de Sarasate and Sonata in A Major by César Franck. Also presented is an exciting New York premiere of Ingrid Arauco's Fantasy–Prelude and Variations.

About:
Join us to experience the artistry of five dynamic pianists—Hechengzi Li, Yang Liu, Chun Wang, Yinfei Wang, and Ryan Zhu—as they come together for a musical carnival! Embarking on a journey of dance and love through the works by Albeniz, Granados, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Schubert, and Johann Strauss, they will mesmerize us with their intoxicating virtuosity and lyricism. At the heart of the concert lies Robert Schumann's Carnaval, Op. 9, a pinnacle of Romantic expression. Renowned Schumann scholar and Juilliard professor Michael Musgrave will enrich the experience with his illuminating insights, providing captivating introductions and narrations interspersed with pianists performing this masterwork. Come bid farewell to the 2023-24 season with us!
