Chopin Festival

After a successful inaugural season of the concert series, the Ocean Music Foundation is opening the 2024-25 season with a festival commemorating the 175th anniversary of Frédéric Chopin's death on October 3-6, 2024. Seven-quarters of a century has passed since Chopin passed away on October 17, 1849, but his music continues to mesmerize countless people with its exquisite beauty and irresistible emotional intensity. Conceived as an immersive experience tracing through Chopin’s short yet rich life, the complete works published during his lifetime will be performed in ten public concerts at St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church in Brooklyn, New York. The festival will also present the inaugural Ocean Music International Piano Competition, as well as educational events such as masterclasses and panel discussions, taking place at OPERA America and the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in New York City.

To identify and involve as many talented young pianists and enthusiastic amateur pianists as possible in this celebration, the inaugural Ocean Music International Piano Competition will focus exclusively on Chopin’s oeuvre. The Concerto Category will select six winners, each performing one movement of Chopin’s concertos with the Ocean Music Festival Orchestra under the direction of esteemed pianist and conductor Dai Uk Lee. The Solo Category is open to pianists of any background and age, who can apply through video recordings with selected Chopin pieces. Winners will be invited to perform at the festival concerts. Renowned jury members include Yoheved Kaplinsky, Yong Hi Moon, and Melvin Chen. The Ocean Music International Piano Competition is a proud member of the Alink–Argerich Foundation.
